Testimonials On Our Lobbying Efforts

The Tavern League of Minnesota retains one of Minnesota’s highest profile lobbyists, Maryann Campo. On March 28, 2004 the Star Tribune named Maryann Campo one of the “most effective professional persuader in the state.”  Maryann, in conjunction with Tavern League Executive Director Kenn Rockler, is one of the strongest lobbying forces at the State Capitol.

You know she’s always there. She is persistent, and doesn’t give up until the final rap of the gavel. But I find her friendly in her disagreements. She is very loyal, on both a party and friendship basis. She and Kenn worked persistently against .08 BAC.

-Steve Sviggum (IR), Former Speaker of the House

I have known Maryann for many years both professionally and as a friend.  While everyone knows her to be persistent, I also know her to be extremely thoughtful.  She knows her way around the capitol and knows the players on both sides of the isle.  Maryann has a deep commitment to the people and issues she represents. She and Kenn Rockler were the lobbyists who worked with me on .08 BAC.

- Lieutenant. Governor Carol Molnau,

I have been at the legislature since 1982 and Maryann is as fierce a competitor as I have seen. She and the Tavern League have worked to oppose smoking bans, wine- in-grocery, and many other issues detrimental to the hospitality industry. They held their ground against overwhelming odds and persisted in fighting .08 BAC.

- Representative Loren Solberg (DFL),

Chairman House Ways and Means Committee

I have worked with Maryann, Kenn, and the Tavern League on many issues and they are constant advocates for the hospitality industry.

- Representative Tom Emmer

Minnesota House of Representatives

I have known Maryann for many years and have worked with her since being elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives. Maryann, Kenn and will be aggressive on issues affecting the hospitality industry.

- Representative Al Juhnke,

Chairman of Agriculture, Rural Economies, and Veterans Affairs Finance

She is a tireless, hardworking, extremely focused individual.  Like many other legislators, I have come to regard Maryann as a friend in addition to working with her professionally. Probably the most thorough lobbyist I know, she gets along well with members of both parties and is a strong advocate for her clients. Maryann and Kenn are the only ones who have worked with me in opposition to .08 BAC and wine-in-grocery legislation, the last five years.

- County Commissioner, Tom Workman,

Former Chairman of the Transportation Committee

Maryann really knows her way around the capitol and is familiar with both parties. Sometimes considered a little direct, it is a reflection of her style.  She is extremely loyal, stays on target, and in the face of adversity perseveres for her clients’ issues where others might falter.

- Senator Dick Day (IR)
  Former Minnesota Senate Minority Leader

I worked with Kenn Rockler, Jim Thomas, Joe Campo, and Keith Poppenhagen during my years as the Executive Director of the MLBA. We retained Maryann Campo as our Lobbyist and I worked alongside of her at the state legislature. The TLoM will continue to be the hospitality industries strongest voice at the State Capitol.

Former Executive Director of the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association
